Risk of breast cancer and ovarian cancer in women
Breast cancer and ovarian cancer are two important factors affecting women's health. The chance of a woman suffering from breast cancer by the age of 70 is 8%, and from ovarian cancer is about 2%. However, women with BRCA1 or BRCA2 (BRCA1/2) genetic mutations have a significantly increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer, with a lifetime risk of more than 60% to develop breast cancer and a 10%-60% chance to develop ovarian cancer. BRCA gene mutations will also cause tumors to occur earlier in life, leading to breast or ovarian cancer occurrence at a younger age.
